I have officially returned to the world of Eorzea. There is something about MMORPG titles that fascinates me. I’ve come to believe it’s the ambient social nature of them. It feels special to exist in a space with other people.
I’ve come and gone from FFXIV several times. My last hiatus was after finishing the A Realm Reborn campaign and finally beginning Heavensward.
Upon returning I had a new fire in me. I decided I wouldn’t ruin the experience for myself by rushing through the story. I would enjoy the parts of the game I felt like playing; for me, that is making money on the market board.
After playing for around a month I decided to change servers. I began my FFXIV journey on the Primal data center on Leviathan. I chose it because it was a highly populated, older server. That eventually became the reason I wanted to leave it.
It is tough being a sprout in a server where most of the players you see standing around have beaten the game and maxed out every job. I deliberated for a few weeks and made the jump to Dynamis’s server, Maduin. It was part of a preferred world bonus where I could move for free plus get double EXP for 90 days. Win-win.
Being on Maduin has been amazing. Content is actually harder now when you aren’t being carried by fully kitted-out vets. I could feel when my gear needed an upgrade. The players around me were also sprouts, so it felt like I was experiencing content with other players in real time.
I also made my own Free Company. That isn’t quite what I set out to do, but after joining several and not finding my place, I created my own. It is still small, but it’s chill. I’m learning things about being a leader. Not to be too high-brow about it, but it’s interesting.
All in all, I’ve been enjoying my time on FFXIV and wanted to write about it real quick. I halfway wanted to participate in Blaugust, but missed the first week. Oopsie. At least I got one in.
