Software Suite

Welcome to my personal suite of software I use on a daily basis. Everything is free and mostly open source stuff.

GIMP – Photo editing, Adobe Photoshop but free. You can even skin it to look just like Photoshop.

Geany – Programming text editor. I use it for HTML mainly.

Joplin – Note taking application that allows you to host your own note server like EverNote

LibreOffice – I used to like Open Office until I discovered this one. Great suite of office tools!

kitty – Linux terminal emulator. It has tabs and customization to match whatever your theme is.

Thunar – Linux File Manager. I tried Nemo and Nautilus, but Thunar ended up being my go to. The logo is viking hammer. How cool is that?

FileZilla – FTP GUI client. Great software for managing files from your webhost, making backups, or moving entire websites.

Brave – Chromium-based browser that is privacy oriented and blocks ads.

Krita – Needed a good, but simple, drawing app for my Wacom tablet. This worked perfect.

Fooyin – Local music player. Pretty basic, no frills, but it gets the job done. There is some customization to make it more your own.

Nicotine+ – Client to access the SoulSeek network. SoulSeek is a network of music lovers sharing music P2P like the old days of Limewire

HandBrake – Hands down the best media converter. I’ve probably used this for 10 years now

Audacity – Simple and powerful audio recording and editing tool.

Blender – One of the most popular 3D graphics software

Godot – 2D & 3D game creation engine. Unity without all the BS

Transmission – Torrent software that can run in a browser window. I run this on my home server.

Jellyfin – Your own personal Netflix. Play your local video files in a Netflix-like media browser

FreshRSS – Self-hostable RSS feeds with no ads. Control your own news feed

OpenWebUI – Platform for self-hosting local AI models. There might be better ones, but this is what I’m using for now.

SearXNG – Search privately and without tracking. Aggregated search results from majoy sources and can be used over Tor. You can use free instances from others, or self host it yourself.

LinkAce – Self hosted personal bookmarking archive. Has the capability to make Lists and Tags.

KMyMoney – Finance software to keep track of bank accounts, debt payoff, and more. I literally use this daily. Better than Quicken once you get used to it.

Tor – Privacy based browser to explore depths of the deep web.

LibreSprite – Create your own pixel art. I’ve only used it a few times, but it’s a great tool.

Grabber – Browse, download, and scrape images from popular booru/image sites. (18+)
